There are numerous accommodations across the Island but really only three main resort locations.
Chaweng
The largest and the most popular resort is situated at the North of the Eastern coastline. Chaweng has a long beach - nearly 4 kilometers with accommodation dotted all along although the nightlife mainly concentrates around the northern end of the beach.
Chaweng maybe too built up and busy for some but the beach is un-spoilt and a ban on building taller than the coconut palms maintains a more natural skyline (unfortunately this side effect of the ban increases urban sprawl).
If on your holiday you to compromise between a great beach and cool nightlife then Chaweng is probably the best place on Samui for you.
Lamai
The second biggest resort on the island has a great beach and attractions like the Grand Father and Grand Mother rocks. A great range of accommodation exist, especially around the lower, less expensive end of the market - some good value deals can be had around Lamai.
Nightlife is becoming more varied with more western style pubs and restaurants available however the over all feeling for many is that Lamai contains more “Go Go” style bars.
Bophut / Fishermans Village
A much quieter location with some very large top end resorts on the outskirts and some value places within. Fishermans Village is aptly named and really does have a “Village” feel about it.
Going out in Fishermans Village is a very different experience to a night out in Chaweng. Along the main road there are lots of independently owned boutique bars and restaurants. Many different dining style are available in predominantly smaller establishments giving you a more personal service.
Prices seem to have risen in Fishermans Village, probably as a result of the large resorts nearby. A night out here may cost more than in Chaweng but it’s well worth it - even if it’s just for sake of a change of scenery.
